The Alternative Eye Liners

If you're anything like me and just stick to the usual black or brown kohl then this post may be a little helpful. I have recently been trying to branch out and try some new looks for eye liners rather than the typical black and brown so I thought I would bring you my favourites so far.

Firstly is the Topshop Cream Shadow Pot in shade Revealed. This is actually an eye shadow but I have really been enjoying using it with a winged liner brush and applying as an eye liner and either leaving as that or blending out a little to create a subtle smokey eye. This stuff stays put too, once you have applied it it does not budge.

Then I have been using the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl in shade 005 Nude, this is perfect for applying to the water line on the lower lash line and also to the inner corners of the eyes to create a wide eyed and bushy tailed effect.

The No7 Stay Perfect Shade and Define Sticks are just lovely as a cream shadow but also as an eye liner. This particular shade, Gunmetal Grey, is just the most incredible and intense blue toned deep grey. It's the perfect partner for a grey/silver smokey eye. This stuff also does not budge, you can apply at the start of the night and it's still going strong when you get home.

I picked this liner up at the same time as my beloved Rimmel mini palette as I thought it would work really well together and yep I was right. It's the Bourjois Khol and Contour liner in a Khaki shade and looks so pretty against a rusty red toned eye shadow.

Then lastly I've got two liners from Kiko, I've got shades 2 and 6. Shade 2 is very similar is the No7 Gunmetal Grey shadow stick but slightly less grey and slightly more blue. Shade 6 is a deep purple and I have got to say both liners are so impressive. The colour payoff is incredible, they are so well pigmented and stay put all day/night. I have been wearing shade 6 with a berry toned smokey eye and shade 2 actually on the lower lash line with a brown/black smokey eye to give a hit of colour to the eyes.

So they are my current favourite alternative eye liners. I got into such a rut of just reaching for either a black or brown liner so it's really refreshing to try out other looks.

What do you use to line your eyes?

  1. I don't line my eyes everyday, I'm more into the fresh look atm. But when I do, I rarely use a black one. I have a dark aubergine pencil from Mac that's really gorgeous, but the technakohl ones I own are bright colours to add on my lower lash line for a pop of colour.

  2. when I just started wearing make up and only have mascara and a few lipstick, I just line my eyes with the mascara using angled liner brush, but then I bought a black and brown kohl to use it to tightline or on my lash line. I I recently bought the nude eyeliner from rimmel too, but I never thought to use it on the inner corner. thanks for the tips! :)

  3. At the moment I only own black liners, which I tend to only use on nights out and things. I definitely need to invest in some different shades, that are more suitable for daytimes! I really like the sound of the Rimmel one.

  7. I’ve been loving brown liner recently. I would like to try some of Zoeva’s liners. They have some amazing colours and the price isn’t all that bad either!
