St Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan

There has been a serious amount of hype around this product, with all the bloggers talking about it and being featured in many a glossy magazine it has been at the fore front of my mind since I first heard about and my thought process was pretty much; wait, fake tan that you can apply in the shower? This can't be right. I must buy it. So when I spotted it free with a copy of this months InStyle I couldn't not make a purchase.

The actual initial idea of this product is really quite good, a fake tan that you can apply in the shower which will moisturise and tan at the same time however in practice not so much. I have to say waiting around naked for 3 minutes in the shower is not my idea of fun. It's surprising how long 3 minutes actually is when you're freezing cold and waiting for the timer to finish. Also, I don't think my neighbours quite appreciated me shouting at the top of lungs from the shower for Nick to come up and apply it to my back aswell.

The tan itself gives a really subtle natural finish so if you are more darker/olive skinned then you will most likely be disappointed with this product as it won't give that much of a difference to your natural skin tone but for you paler lot then it is ideal. It gives a lovely natural glow to skin and I have to say it didn't go streaky at all on me, I have read a few reviews where people have said that it goes really streaky. As long you ensure to apply the tan in circular motions rather than in straight lines it should be fine. Once you have applied all over and left for 3 minutes you simply just rinse off. I find that it does lather up slightly once water is introduced so you just have to make sure you rinse really well and then pat dry when out of the shower. Once you have applied it you're not meant to wash or anything straight after so I tend to wash with my shower gel etc first then to do this as the last step before getting out of the shower.

Overall I do like this tan. The smell is just standard as for majority of fake tans, that biscuity scent, which you just have to accept if you like to apply fake tan. It isn't as dark in colour as I generally tend to like my fake tans but I can learn to live with this as it does give a really lovely subtle and natural tan. As it a cream based formula it also doesn't dry your skin out and your skin feels moisturised after use so no need to use another moisturiser.

At £14.50 it's not the cheapest of the bunch but it also isn't the most expensive either. I will re purchase this tan once my small sample tube has ran out as I think it would be perfect for the more Autumn/Winter months when you don't want that sunkissed bronze look but you still don't want to look a ghost either.

Have you tried this tan? What do you think of it?

  1. Like you, I was so intrigued when I heard about this, as it's such a unique concept. I hadn't actually thought about the issue of doing your back, so I'll have to remember to try it out when my boyfriend's around to give me a hand!

  2. Been looking for the magazine all over but couldn't find it! That's good that you didn't get any streaks with it, you would think it would happen and I agree I bet 3minutes does feel like forever when your cold! I'm quite olive skinned anyway so I'll probably give it a miss and stick to instant tan! Great review lovely xo

  3. I was intrigued by this too, but to be honest the idea of waiting 3 minutes kind of defeats the point of it being an easy, in-shower product for me. And I hadn't even considered how I would apply it to my back haha! Might just stick with my regular grad tan :)
