Subtle Contouring

When it comes to contouring I much prefer to go for a subtle/natural finish rather than the Kim K dramatic seriously sculpted look so I wanted to bring you my current favourites that help me to achieve this contoured look but in a natural way.

First is the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder in shade 40. I know I go on about the Chanel Les Beiges Powder pretty much all the time but I love it. I have the powder in two different shades, one lighter shade to use as a powder for all over the face and then a darker shade, shade 40, to contour. This powder is a lot warmer in tone so is perfect for adding that little warmth to the skin as well as helping to achieve those sculpted cheek bones that we all know and love. It's super finely milled so blends seamlessly into the skin giving that shadowed effect. And of course it has the classic Chanel scent that I just cannot get enough of.

Next is the Bourjois Bronzing Primer, this is like a mousse/whipped texture. When I'm going for the dewy finish to my makeup this is the one I head for. A little goes a long way with this product and when applied sparingly to the hollows of the cheeks, temples and forehead it is really effective and surprisingly easy to work with.

How could I not include the beloved Benefit Hoola. It needs no introduction, we all know it, we all love it. It's a bit more grey in tone than my usual contour favourites which means I use it for the days when I want to achieve a slightly more sculpted finish than just using my Les Beiges. I tend to use this if I've got meetings in the day or if I'm off out for a client visit etc when I don't want a bronzed face but I still want that structure that contouring creates and Hoola is perfect for this.

Lastly, it's the Burberry Light Glow Natural Blush in shade Earthy Blush. This, as the name would suggest, is actually a blush but the natural grey toned shade lends itself perfectly for some natural contouring. This powder is super finely milled so blends really well into the skin and looks really effective when used in the hollows of the cheeks with a really natural blush like MAC Margin applied to the apples of the cheeks.

So they're my current favourite products to achieve a subtle yet effective contoured finish. What are your favourites? Do you have any recommendations?

  4. I really love the idea of using a darker shade of face powder as a contour - most dedicated contour powders are just too dark for my super pale skin and taste, so I'll definitely have to try that tip out!

  5. Hoola is great! It was my first bronzer ever and I used it a lot for contouring.

I finally managed to find the Bourjois Bronzing Primer at the airport in Belgium yesterday; it's so weird because it's the same product but it has totally different packaging! It's also called "sun illusion", not "bronzing primer" but hey, I finally was able to buy it!

  6. I love Hoola for contouring so much! Its great for creating a natural contour and I've almost finished mine, I use it everyday! I also love the Bourjois bronzer but more for an all over tanned look than contouring! Lovely post!
