#39 Sunday Sounds - Guest Post with Beauty by Kelsey: My Face But Better

First off I’d like to introduce myself - I’m Kelsey, and I blog over on Beauty by Kelsey. And I want to thank Amanda for asking me to write up a guest post for her blog - it’s been one of my favorites to check up on for quite a while now so I jumped at the chance!

One of the many blogger cliches (that some people probably get annoyed by) is using the phrase “my lips but better” when describing the colors of a lip product. I’ve noticed that these kinds of colors are not only my favorite kinds of lip colors, but this “my (blank) but better” is basically my general approach to makeup. While it may be fun to pull together a more dramatic look for a special occasion, for everyday life I generally aim to softly enhance my natural features.

The ultimate “my skin but better” base for me is the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. It gives good enough coverage to even out my skintone without masking my face. It also leaves behind such a dewy glow that makes you look healthy and radiant - your skin if you drank your recommended daily intake of water and got your beauty sleep.

For eyes, a shimmery peachy pink shade is the perfect way to softly enhance them. My go-to for this is hands-down the MAC eyeshadow in All That Glitters. If I’m feeling like I want a little more definition in the crease I’ll always reach for one of the mid-tone shades in the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics palette. My favorite mascara as of late has been the Maybelline Full N’ Soft Waterproof Mascara, and if there’s such a thing as “my lashes but better,” this certainly gives it to you. It really fans out and lengthens the lashes and holds a curl really well, all while keeping them looking fluffy and fluttery.

As for brows, I tend to go for the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade day to day, but when I’m really wanting a more natural look I go for the Brow Wiz. The super thin pencil makes it easy to draw in hairlike strokes, giving an “i was born with these brows,” kind of look.

When I’m going for a natural look, I always opt for cream cheek products. I get my contour and highlight from the Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Glow Duo in #4 - Sculpting/Candlelight. The sculpting shade is quite cool-toned so it looks exceptionally like a natural shadow on the face, and the candlelight shade is so beautiful and sheen-y that it gives a really believable dewy glow to the skin. For blush, I’m quite partial for neutral pinks, but one I can’t get enough of lately is the Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Colour of Youth Lip and Cheek Glow. This is more of a coraly-pink than I usually use, but it really gives the skin the most natural looking flush, like you’re just radiating health.

Lastly for lips, the “my lips but better” I reach for the most often (and that’s saying something) is the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Petal. It’s the perfect color, with a bit of pink, a bit of peach, and a bit of brown. It’s just like my natural lip color, but perhaps a shade darker. Since it’s so hydrating, it’s one I always keep with me to top up throughout the day.

What are your favorite “my (blank) but better” products?
